Dance Classes Information
Tiny Twinkles (2-4 years)
The Tiny Twinkles class is a 30 minute jazz and movement class for children aged approximately 2 to 4 years. Set to fun music, the children develop fundamental dance technique while at the same time grooving to their favourite songs and learning routines to perform at the end of year concert.
Jazzy Juniors (4-5 years)
The Jazzy Juniors class is an introduction into tap, jazz and ballet dancing for children aged approximately 4 to 5 years. In this class, the children learn basic jazz, tap and ballet combinations as well as fundamental dance technique which is required for later dance study. Students also learn a performance routine that they can dance at eisteddfods and the end of year concert as well as having a fabulous time!
Jazz Classes are up-beat, energetic classes in which children develop flexibility and coordination while at the same time dancing to their favourite music. The jazz classes cover facets of dance such as lyrical jazz, funk, commercial jazz and cabaret. These classes follow the nationally accredited CSTD Jazz examination syllabus. Helen Clark School of Dancing places the utmost importance on stretching and aims to instil body awareness & safe dance practice in all of its students.
Tap classes are fun, rhythmical classes in which children learn how to perform a wide variety of tap steps and combinations while at the same time developing correct tapping technique. These classes follow the LGTDA syllabus which is one of the most challenging and exciting tap syllabus that Australia has to offer. This syllabus has produced musicals such as “Hot Shoe Shuffle” and “Tap Dogs” which are now highly acclaimed on Broadway and London’s West-End stages. Our tap students progress through early training in the flexibility of ankle and knee joints, gross motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination to advanced levels of musicality, timing differentiation and improvisation.
Ballet classes are graceful and fluid classes in which children learn correct ballet technique through a combination of barre and centre exercises. These classes follow the nationally accredited CSTD Ballet examination syllabus. The CSTD syllabus is one of the most widely recognised classical ballet syllabi in the world, producing some of the best technical performers in today’s ballet companies. The syllabus teaches children good technique and discipline as well as instilling fluidity of movement and a unique performance quality. Our ballet students progress through early training in deportment, body awareness, strength, flexibility and character role-playing to advanced levels of strength, technique and pointe work.
Core and Flexibility Classes
Core and Flexibility class is a specialised class focusing on core strength, flexibility, jazz leaps, kicks and turns. This class focuses and further develops ballet and jazz technique.
A mix between jazz and ballet, our contemporary classes are fluid and lyrical. Contemporary is an engaging dance style that allows the dancers expression to become an integral part of the dance.
We offer all students the opportunity to participate in examinations for tap, jazz, ballet and contemporary dancing. We follow the nationally accredited CSTD syllabus for ballet, jazz and contemporary dancing, and the highly acclaimed LGTDA syllabus for tap dancing. Helen Clark School of Dancing has a 70 year 100% pass rate in all examinations with most students achieving an Honours result or higher. When graduating from Helen Clark School of Dancing, students will be fully qualified teachers of the LGTDA Tap Syllabus and CSTD Jazz, Ballet and Contemporary Syllabi. Students are also given the opportunity to attain a Diploma in Dance.
Limited spaces are available, by invitation, for students to attend private lessons to learn and perform solo work in the dance genre/s of their choosing. Solos are a fabulous opportunity for students to develop additional confidence, technique and performance skills.
